Guernsey Friends of Biberach

2009 Archive

45 musicians of the Biberach Wind Orchestra under the leadership of Werner Feuerer together with their conductor Andreas Winter were in Guernsey from 29th May to 3rd June.

Richard De La Rue had organised two concerts, one at St James on 31st May together with Christine Anthony’s Bel Canto Choir and one in the Market Square on 1st June. A full programme had been arranged for their visit, including an island tour, a visit to Castle Cornet and a day trip to Sark. After the concert in Market Square they attended a reception in the New Court hosted by the Bailiff.

At the invitation of the Bailiff Biberach’s Mayor Thomas Fettback and his wife Cristina (accompanied by Rotraud Rebmann) came to Guernsey from June 11 to 14. It was meant to be a relaxing visit, but Herr Fettback was keen to find out more about our education system. So Ken Wheeler took the party to visit several schools. On Saturday, 13th June the Biberach party attended the Lieutenant Governor’s Reception in honour of the official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Mr Chris Betley, the Honorary Consul for Germany, hosted a lunch for them and Mr Wheeler organised a barbeque in the evening.

A Guernsey Week is being planned to take place in Biberach from 17 to 27 October. Many events such as a Visit Guernsey and Culture and Leisure exhibition are being planned. The Town Church Strings with David Le Page and Angelique Lihou, Bel Canto Choir, Jazz Band etc will be part of the Week.
