23 April - Liberation Day for Deportees
23 April - St George’s Day - is Liberation Day for the many men, women and children who had been deported from Guernsey and Sark during the wartime occupation when Camp Lindele, in Biberach, was liberated by allied troops. Jill Chubb, Chair of the Guernsey Deportees Association, organised a service of remembrance on 23 April 2024 at the White Rock, led by Canon Chris Rutledge, Catholic Dean of Guernsey.
At the same time, a large group of Biberachers commemorated the same with a small service at the site of the old Camp Lindele, in Biberach.
