Deportees’ Liberation Day Remembrance
St George’s Day, 23 April 2016
It’s not only St George’s Day today, but also Liberation Day for Guernsey’s Deportees during the war, who were liberated from internment at Camp Lindele, in Biberach, Germany, 71 years ago, on 23 April 1945. A small and moving commemorative service was held at the White Rock, St Peter Port in remembrance of those who suffered, and those who died.
It is fitting that Guernsey’s flag should fly in remembrance and commemoration, made up as it is with St George’s cross.
