‘Guernsey Wochen’ in Biberach reflects flourishing friendship

The town of Biberach is situated in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. During WWII, it was the involuntary home for over 1,000 Guernsey and Sark deportees who were interned at Camp Lindele for almost 3 years.

Today, Guernsey and Biberach are ‘twinned’ in a flourishing friendship and this week sees the launch of a month-long period of activities and events under the banner of ‘Guernsey Wochen’.

A large party travelled from the Channel Islands to take part in the formal launch, including Guernsey’s Bailiff, Sir Richard McMahon, and former Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas, the island’s Chief Minister, Lyndon Trott and the German Honorary Consul, Chris Betley.

A range of cultural and artistic events have been planned by the Biberach Friends of Guernsey, including an art exhibition featuring Guernsey Pubs, a 3-night concert by star violinist David Le Page, a workshop on how to knit a Guernsey sweater, several evenings of folk music & sea shanties, a Sunday service by the Dean of Guernsey, gin tasting, viewing films and many other special events intended to reflect island life in its partner town.
