Update on Vera Creron, nee Glide
We have received the following message, which we wanted to share:
“Hello,
My mother, Vera Creron, née Glide, who lives with my family, was interned to Biberach from Guernsey with her mother, Eugenie Glide, father, Thomas Glide and her Aunt Clara.
Vera, her mom, her dad and her aunt also spent some time at Dorsten.
I have attached a photo of Vera Creron at her granddaughter, Colleen’s wedding in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Vera is pictured with her grandson, Reid.
People will probably remember my mother’s father, Thomas Glide, as Thomas Glide was one of two chimney sweeps on Guernsey. He also had a furniture shop in St. Peter Port and was known on Guernsey as a businessman.
My father, Thomas Creron, was interned from Guernsey to Alderney death camp, where he saved many lives by supplying food to the “slaves” at the death camp as his job was the shepherd. He also gave information to the Allies that resulted in Alderney being freed without the loss of Allied lives. He stayed about a year after the war to detonate land and sea mines so that further lives were saved.
Vera immigrated with her second family to Canada in 1955.
Regards,
Mike Creron”
