Visit of Knabenchor Biberach (St. Martin’s Boys’ Choir, Biberach)
“Dear Helga and Rotraud,
The visit has been a great success and the choir has had a very warm, welcoming reception from their host families. The town church circa 1048 AD, was full and the acoustics enhanced the wonderful singing of the choir directed by Johannes.
On behalf of the GFBA I would like to thank all those people who worked hard and helped make the visit such a success: the organisers, the hosts, the Guernsey Deportee Association and Bel Canto Choir for their donations, and the German consul, Chris Betley who has kept us well informed and worked hard. Chris and Gaby his wife, and his team organised, prepared and cooked a BBQ, with desserts made by Bel Canto choir members, for the choir at L’Ancresse Beach on Saturday evening.
A perfect sunny, warm summer’s evening in Guernsey on one of our most beautiful sandy beaches. Local families relaxed and swam in the rising tide of nearly 9 metres. With its broad stretch of sand the exhuberant boys ran, played ball games and paddled in the clear water. Johannes led the boys in singing much to the delight of beach goers and passers by who asked me who and where the boys were from and remarked on the beauty of their voices rising over L’Ancresse Beach and Common.
I am sure this will be an evening imprinted on memories and so enjoyed by all.
Best wishes
Gloria”
